Another successful event for PAWS! Our annual Mutts & Butts Fashion Show raised a fantastic €717.
Many thanks to everyone who came down to the shelter to watch the show; to the volunteers who helped out with refreshments and manning stalls; to Judith from Here & Now for providing the clothes and for keeping us all in order; to Pat for helping the models dress; to Robin for the music and Dave for the commentary; to the models (for not falling over); to Julie of Waggs for grooming the dogs; and finally to the dogs for being so well behaved (except Joe, who cocked his leg on Judith and one of the models!!). Two puppies were reserved pending adoption as well!
We are looking forward to next year's show already! Click on the filmstrip for some photos of the show!
Quiz Nite 10th October 2016
The PAWS quiz at Gustoso last night was attended and enjoyed by over 130 people. David's quiz was very entertaining and all credit to him and his wife, Pat. Their preparation was evident. The food and service were, as always, of a high standard so well done the Gustoso team. Thanks to Shampooch who sponsor the event by providing the prizes for quiz winners and runners' up. Last night's winners were 'Dog's Dinner', a team who have attended faithfully for many years, yet this was their first ever win. Congratulations guys!
(not sure about the guy with the cheesy grin at the back, looks like an interloper!)
Thanks to the support of those attending, €1035 was raised for the charity - a great result all round.
Quiz Nite 19th September 2016
Wonderful amount of funds raised last night at the PAWS quiz held in Gustoso Restaurant. The 119 generous people who attended collectively raised just over €1070. It was an evening for 'firsts' - David was our new quiz master and it was a team of quiz 'newbies' called 'Deftera' who won. Runners up were called 'Sueless'. Both teams were presented with wine donated by the event sponsors, Shampooch.
Thanks to Dave, his wife Pat and friend Jane who ran the quiz, and also to Gustoso for the high standard of food and service.
Raft Race 17th September 2016
A few action shots from today's very successful raft race which has raised well over €3,500. (Some sponsorship money still to come before we have a total.) If you wish to see more photos of the Raft Race, click on Captain Pugwash.
Thanks and well done to everyone who took part, came to spectate, raised sponsorship money and also to the volunteers who helped on the day!

Finally, a massive THANK YOU to Terry and Trudy for their sterling work
in putting on the quiz over the last four years. Sadly, last night was
the last one they will be doing for PAWS. During the time we have been
working together we have raised a fantastic €20748!
Fear not though, the PAWS quizzes will continue.
Summer Sensation June 2016
second PAWS Summer Sensation was held on the 14th June at our favourite
venue, the Gustoso Restaurant on
Tomb of the Kings Road, Paphos. Just over 90 people attended the event
and the evening produced a magnificent sum of €750
for the benefit of the dogs at the shelter. That kind of money
is, of course, the lifeblood of the charity and it is all down to the
supporters and friends of PAWS! Thank you all very much! The
entertainment was provided by Whitemouse Duo whose reportoire kept the dance floor a busy place all night. The renowned
Gustoso buffet was up to the usual high standard and thanks to Tina,
Demi and the staff for the familiar high standards of service!

A massive thanks to Terry and
Trudy who run the quizzes. Their popularity is such that as a result of
the 8 quizzes held this year, a total of €8225.20 has been raised for
our dogs. Terry sometimes boasts that his quizzes are more popular than
One Direction concerts, but there is absolutely no truth in the rumour
that he is practising signing his autograph!
Pawse for a Cause
"Pawse for a
Cause" at the BASE last night was a fabulous evening. There were
musicians playing guitar, harmonica, saxophone and double base. The
singers and dancers were great and the latter included ballet,
dancercise, tap and belly dancing. This variety music event had been the
idea of Gaynor Warriner, who was also one of the singers. Gaynor worked
very hard for months to put the show together. The event raised €1100
which has been split equally between Tala Monastery Cats and PAWS Dog
thanks to Gaynor and her husband Chris, to compere Norman, to Baz for
sound, to all the performers, to those who donated handmade goods &
raffle prizes, to everyone who came to support and of course to those
who helped during the course of the evening. We are grateful to Pavlos,
the owner of the BASE, for not charging for the use his venue. Great
Mutts & Butts Fashion Show 2015
Due to bad
weather, our Mutts and Butts Show yesterday was relocated to the UKCA
Club and became a 'Butts' only Fashion Show as it was not practical to
bring our dogs with us. We are grateful to the UKCA for accommodating us
at only 48 hours notice.
The show was
compered by Dave, with Robin providing background music and we were
treated to a wonderful performance by singer Jo Allsop. The models,
Geri, Elaine, Irene, Maria, Denise, Carleen and Britta did very well
showing off the various outfits supplied by Judith of 'Here & Now'.
Their hair had been beautifully styled by Erin of Jonney Boo Hair Salon
and their make-up expertly done by Britta Simon of LR Health & Beauty.

those who gave donations and of course to the team of PAWS helpers who

Gustoso Quiz 27th July, 2015
Last night was the first PAWS
quiz night in recent years to be held in the middle of our hot Cypriot
summer and it turned out to be a great evening at Gustoso Restaurant.
The fact that the event was attended by 122 people, most of whom have
already booked for the next quiz, leads us to believe that everyone
enjoyed themselves. The amount raised was announced as being €945 but
then a very generous lady called Jacqui stepped in and donated an
additional €55 to make the total €1,000. Grateful thanks to Jacqui and
all those who attended or contributed to the evening. Thanks to you we
have boosted the coffers for the canine residents of PAWS Dog Shelter.
Special mention must be made of Terry, the quizmaster who was in top
form and cheeky as ever and also to his assistant and wife Trudy. Both
do a lot of preparatory work to ensure things run smoothly and to time.
Our thanks also go to Jill Hamilton of Shampooch who sponsors the event
on a regular basis.
The wining team were the
’Numpties’ who scored a whopping 67 points out of a possible 70 and won
6 bottles of wine and the winner’s certificate. There were 5 teams who
were runners up with a score of 65. After drawing cards, the B52’s won
and received 3 bottles of wine.

heat, ensuring that everybody had plenty to eat and drink.
Summer Sensation 16th June, 2015
Another great evening was had by
all at the inaugural PAWS Summer Sensation at the Gustoso Restaurant on
Tomb of the Kings Road, Paphos. One hundred and twenty friends and
supporters attended the event and over the evening a total of €1000
was raised for the PAWS Dog Shelter. In truth over €900 was raised but
an anonymous supporter made up the difference to €1000. Many, many
thanks!! The entertainment was provided by Dominic Holmes whose fabulous
reportoire kept the dance floor a busy place all night. The renowned
Gustoso buffet was up to the usual high standard and thanks to Tina,
Demi and the Gustoso staff for the familiar high standards of service!

Charles Papapetrou gave up
his Bank Holiday Monday for PAWS. Charles, a British qualified osteopath
and acupuncturist offered his services today to PAWS supporters at a
reduced rate AND then donated the €210 to our charity. This is enough to
pay for the neutering/spaying of 3 dogs. A massive thank you to Charles
who is pictured below shaking hands with one of our Kennel Consultants,
Matt Harris. Charles is a dog lover and he was very complementary about
the work we do.
Watch this space as Charles
hinted that he may have another 'day for PAWS' later in the year! You

the stallholders and the PAWS volunteers who gave up their Saturday to
help raise money for our dogs. A big thank you to Robin Boundy, our
resident DJ, and Rock FM who, not only provided music and a live link to
the Rock FM studio, but as our Media Sponsor, advertised our event in
the weeks leading up to the event. All in all, a fantastic €1903 was
raised on the day, and just to put the icing on the cake!, we re-homed 4

150 people attended the very colourful K9 Christmas Capers Dog Show
which was held in the K9 Training area in Tala on Sunday 14th
December. Lindsay Cowie and her team of dog handlers and dogs put on a
show that was very entertaining and fun for all the family. There were
displays of dancing dogs, a ‘Tinseltown Table Cloth Tow’, ‘Christmas
Angel Agility’, ‘Oh Christmas Tree O-bedience’, recall races, and
heelwork. There were various costume changes for both the dogs and the
handlers during the show. Even when things did not always go to plan,
the audience loved every minute of it, craning their necks to see what
was going on. The dogs Belle, Ben, Chuck, Dalton, Darcy, Jenna, Mack,
Merlin and William were up for the challenge and enjoyed being the
centre of attention. Their handlers Jon, Lindsay, Matt, Mel and Trina
made the show fun for all.
Lindsay had her mind set on raising as
much as possible for the two charities and so ‘scrounged’ everything she
possibly could from her wide-reaching network of friends, family and
businesses. That even included the tinsel, plastic cups, drinks, buns,
burgers etc. etc. The hard work which Lindsay and her team put in
certainly paid off as they raised a staggering total of €2753 which
resulted in PAWS Dog Shelter and Cancer Research each receiving
All at PAWS are indebted to everybody

Mutts and Butts Fashion Show,
The concept of having a fashion show
which teamed models up with homeless dogs to showcase both evolved into
a reality at the first Mutts and Butts Fashion Show which took place on
the afternoon of Saturday 18th October. The venue was PAWS
Dog Shelter. Judith Boundy from ‘Here & Now’ in Kissonerga provided the
UK High Street fashion as well as her unrivalled expertise to ensure the
smooth running of the show.
It was lovely to
see each and every one of the 106 people who attended. The first part
of the fashion show featured the models wearing casual day wear and
showing off some of the resident dogs who had been bathed and groomed
especially for the occasion. At the interval, everyone enjoyed a drink
and some home-baking whilst singer Kim Verkaik entertained. Visitors
also had the opportunity to visit the dogs in the shelter as well as
browse through the many items of clothing
and jewellery on display and to pick out new seasonal items for their
wardrobe. Other stalls including preserves and cakes which attracted a
lot of customers.
In the second half of the show, the
models appeared in formal day wear as well as stunning, glitzy, evening
dresses and other classy outfits. Coupled with good quality, the low
cost of items made them a very attractive proposition for buyers.
The majority of the models were
volunteers who regularly help at the shelter and they all did a
wonderful job. One lady, Natalia, was certainly no stranger to the
catwalk as she is a model and beauty pageant winner. The other stars of
the show were of course the dogs and puppies who behaved so admirably in
front of the guests.
Thanks go to Judith, her assistants and
the band of volunteers and helpers at the shelter who were involved in
making the afternoon so successful. It really was a team effort and the
event has, generated €1378 towards the upkeep of the dogs at the
Episkopi Fete 2014
On Saturday 20th September one of our
volunteers Geri, aided and abetted by Sue, Hilary and Margo ran a PAWS

selling Paws memorabilia, fridge magnets, t. shirts, Christmas cards and
calendars. This was in addition to some clothing and assorted
bric-a-brac. The ladies
managed to raise about €300. The team worked
well together and said it was good fun, that they got to meet many nice
people but it was hard work . Many thanks to all four ladies for your
time and effort.
