Vivian was found tied to the main gate of the shelter with another dog. It is quite likely that a third Beagle found at the shelter a week earlier was abandoned by the same person. Three Beagles in one week is unlikely to be a coincidence. Why were they abandoned? Who knows? Surplus to requirement? No good at hunting?
Vivian settled in well, but from the start we saw that she wasn't used to a great deal of kindness from humans since she watched us carefully at first trying to judge what we would do. That has gone now and she is more confident, but still a little suspicious of strangers.
With the right people, Vivian will come out of her shell. She will need gentle encouragement to build her confidence in people and situations but in the end she will most likely turn into a great dog who will be equally at home cuddling on the sofa or running about the garden and enjoying walks.
