About Us

Who are we

The Cyprus Association for the Protection of Animals, [CAPCA] better known as Paws, is a registered charity and provides a care facility for abandoned, rescued and abused dogs in the Paphos area. We believe passionately that every dog should enjoy the best possible life

Our Vision

Is a world where all pets, particularly dogs, are well cared for in loving and safe homes for life.

Our Mission

We aim to achieve this vision by ensuring every dog that comes into our shelter receives the best possible care and treatment so they can have the start of a better life.  By promoting good animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, we provide guidance and work with the community in Cyprus, and overseas to ensure we can rehabilitate and rehome dogs to the right home.  We champion and support vulnerable dogs, and aim to create lasting change for animals who have been in our care.

Our Values

  • We aim to find the right home for every animal in our care.
  • We endeavour to support anyone who needs help in caring for their pets.
  • We believe the emotional and physical well-being of every animal we look after is paramount.
  • We are proud of our non-judgmental and compassionate approach.
  • We value our volunteers, staff, supporters, and our partners.
  • We pride ourselves on being open, honest, and committed in every aspect of our work.
  • We exist solely as a charitable entity and we work to raise the funds and support in an ethical and open way so that we can achieve the highest standard of care, and champion animal welfare in Cyprus.

Outside and inside the compound many trees provide a windbreak, shade and help absorb noise. They also create a happier environment.

At the centre of the complex is the dog kitchen suite. Here all foodstuffs are stored and distributed to each section.

Connected to the kitchen are long service corridors containing single sections, e.g puppies, new dogs,  large breeds, to ease integration.

Each corridor contains pens which have a walled room for privacy and a wire section to allow the dogs to socialise and for company.

Most pens adjoin a large compound. Most have trees, foliage and a large gazebo for shade and relaxation. Some have small pools in summer.

Finally, there’s our staff area where volunteers can take a break, socialise and enjoy a drink and snack from the kitchen.
