Franco was found in the access lane to the shelter. Whether he was dumped or found his own way there, we will never know. After several weeks with us, he is still a very nervous boy who will escape to the farthest corner of his pen is you try to approach. He will gradually become more trusting though because even now if you can get close enough he will let you stroke him. He doesn't flinch at your touch like some dogs do but he is not et entirely comfortable with humans. However, he loves his food and is brave enough to come closer when his dish is left on the floor and the volunteer is leaving. This suggests that some high value treats might soon have him literally eating out of your hand.
FRANCO needs understanding and patient people who will encourage him out of his reticence and give him the confidence he currently lacks to trust people. Let's face it, he is probably a hunting dog that got lost out on the shoot and so left behind. His short life to date has quite likely been held in a cage with several other dogs, taken out for hunting with no training, failed at his job and so abandoned. How can a poor little thing like Franco, barely a year old, be expected to deal with that?
If you would like to adopt FRANCO and give him a family life where he is loved and cared for, or would like information about adoption in general, give please email colleenatpaws@outlook.com for more information, or send PAWS a private Facebook message (please include your email address in the message), or come to the shelter to meet FRANCO.
