Henry is one of a litter of 8 puppies (5 boys and 3 girls) born to a street dog. There is a long history to this family. For several years, volunteers tried to catch a dog called Hattie, who had been a street dog her whole life having litter after litter - many of which were taken in by PAWS. Hattie disappeared in May 2024, presumed dead. The mother to these puppies is the remaining pup from her final litter. The rest of that litter were spirited away by hunters but Hettie (as we call her) escaped. Sadly, she has inherited her mother's genes and evades capture at every turn! Anyway, nature took its course and she herself became a mother herself at barely a year old.
We were able to catch the puppies fairly easily when they started coming out for food. They settled into the shelter quickly and soon got used to people. They are typical cute, funny boisterous puppies who love to play with each other and with humans.
Because we aren't sure who dad is, we can only assume that they will take after mum and grow to be medium-sized. A few of them though have rather stumpy legs and so could be smaller. One of Hettie's friends is a very friendly, short legged terrier-type dog, so it could be that he is father to some of the pups.
If you are interested in adopting a puppy or would like more information, please send PAWS a private message (please include your email address), email colleenatpaws@outlook.com or come to the shelter to meet them.
