Hotte

Description

Name: HOTTE
DoB: August 2024
M/F: Male
Adult size: Medium
Admitted to PAWS:
September 2024
Hotte is one of a litter of 8 puppies (5 boys and 3 girls) born to a street dog. There is a long history to this family. For several years, volunteers tried to catch a dog called Hattie, who had been a street dog her whole life having litter after litter – many of which were taken in by PAWS. Hattie disappeared in May 2024, presumed dead. The mother to Hotte and co. is the remaining pup from Hattie’s final litter. The rest of that litter were spirited away by hunters but Hettie (as we call her) escaped. Sadly, she has inherited her mother’s genes and evades capture at every turn! Anyway, nature took its course and she herself became a mother herself at barely a year old.
We were able to catch all the puppies fairly easily and get them out of harm’s way into the shelter. All except Hotte have now for their forever homes.
Although he doesn’t appear so at first, Hotte is actually quite fearful. He barks and at people and lunges at the kennel fence not through aggression but through anxiety. This is his way of dealing with life and, what he sees as, defending himself. Because of this anxiety, Hotte needs special people who can help him build self-confidence without falling into the trap of pitying him. He needs to realise that everything is OK – the outside world won’t hurt him, people will love him. Once he finds his forever family, he will be safe and can begin to build the confidence he is lacking.
Volunteers have worked with Hotte, and he has proved to be calmer than in his kennel and eager to learn. It would be good if his adoptive family already has a confident dog that could help him find his way in life.

Hotte is one of a litter of eight puppies (five boys and three girls) born to a street dog. This family has a long and complex history. For several years, volunteers tried to catch a dog named Hattie, who had lived her entire life on the streets and had multiple litters – many of which were taken in by PAWS. Hattie disappeared in May 2024, and she is presumed dead.

The mother of Hotte and his siblings is the only surviving pup from Hattie’s final litter. The rest of that litter was taken by hunters, but Hettie (as we call her) managed to escape. Unfortunately, she inherited her mother’s traits and has evaded capture at every turn. Nature took its course, and she became a mother herself at barely a year old.

We were able to catch all the puppies fairly easily and get them into the shelter, where they are safe. All except for Hotte have already found their forever homes.

Although he may not seem so at first glance, Hotte is actually quite fearful. He barks and lunges at people walking past his kennel, not out of aggression but as a way to cope with his anxiety. This behaviour serves to defend himself against what he sees as a threat. Due to this anxiety, Hotte needs special owners who can help him build self-confidence without pitying him. He must learn that the outside world is safe and that people will love him. Once he finds his forever family, he will feel secure and can begin to develop the confidence he is lacking.

Volunteers have worked with Hotte, and he has shown himself to be calmer outside of his kennel and eager to learn. It would be beneficial for his adoptive family to already have a confident dog that could help guide him in life.
