Well, what can we say about Ian? First and foremost, he really needs to be out of the shelter. When he first joined PAWS he was the most affectionate dog on the block and LOVED his hugs. When you went into his pen he would rush up, throw his front legs round you and lay his head against you so you could hug him and stroke his head. The years in the shelter are taking their toll and he is beginning to think that no-one loves him and so he is withdrawing into himself. This is why Ian needs a loving family of his own that has time to spend with him.
He was found dumped at the shelter gates, showing all the signs of having Leishmania - scaly skin, crusty nose, eyes and ears. A blood test confirmed our thoughts. Leish is a lifelong but not necessarily life-shortening disease, which is treatable but not curable. So long as they are correctly monitored and treated Leish dogs have as good a quality of life as a non-Leish dog. With the correct medication and food, Ian's condition improved and he became a stunner with the most gorgeous ginger coat
Ian is a good dog who just needs a chance.
Could you give our ginger nut the love and affection that he craves? If you think you might like to adopt him, we will happily give you more information about Ian's health and answer any questions you have.
