Lucia is a sweet girl but still reticent with people. For quite a long time she shared a pen with a younger, highly energetic female. The energy rubbed off on Lucia and she became stressed and constantly on the move. She has recently moved to a new pen in the shelter to share with an older male dog and within a day we saw a much calmer mood settle over her. She is also becoming more responsive to humans. We feel that once in a home, with the love and understanding of her own family she will develop into a loving family dog.
The key to Lucia is to take things gently and slowly. Putting too much pressure on her doesn't work. She just needs to be able to trust people and have some routine in her life.
