Rudi was taken to the vet to be put down. The access had already been put in and it is only thanks to the persistent fighting of the vet's assistant that he is still alive.

I was contacted by the vet asking for help. That's how I found out the whole story.

Rudi was given to a woman by his owner, who had had him since he was a puppy. She didn't want him anymore after just two days and abandoned him. He was then found in a garden and taken on by an organization with the aim of finding him a new home.

Rudi was taken straight to the vet to be neutered and have blood tests... and it wasn't easy to handle him there, as he was completely out of sorts and terrified. We are sure that he was kicked and beaten beforehand... because he was fighting as if his life depended on it.

From there he went straight to a foster home. All I know from there is that he is apparently food aggressive, as he bit his foster mom on the foot when she was standing next to a bowl of food and his foster dad when he was on his lap and he tried to gently push him away... he bit him on the hand.

The organization thought that was reason enough to put him down. Healthy, small, not even two years old. There were no attempts to test him ourselves or to get a dog trainer to help.

Rudi has been with me for two days now. With the help of a dog trainer, I tried to provoke him until he wanted to bite... But that wasn't easy, because Rudi warns before he even tries. Rudi is simply afraid and has found a way to defend himself.

He hasn't snapped at me once. Food aggression towards people has not been detected in any way, and only towards dogs that he doesn't like.

Rudi has excellent body language and you can read him very well. He isn't aggressive, but rather insecure and needs to learn to trust again. He trusted me in a very short time. I can do anything with him, but I'm not overdoing it at the moment because I don't want to destroy that trust.

He is incredibly funny, playful, very affectionate, but of course he is also a confident terrier... he only loses his confidence around larger dogs... he is sometimes afraid until he gets to know them better.

He travels well in the car, gets used to new situations very quickly and is all in all a great guy who needs the right people.

Children should be older, simply so that they understand how to approach him. You have to understand that he can be frightened by the abuse and is sceptical at first.

If you are interested in Rudi, please send PAWS a private Facebook message (please include your email address in your message), email colleenatpaws@outlook.com or come to the shelter to meet him.
