Zola is a lovely Labrador X. She was found by community workers in the fields quite close to the shelter. The man who brought her to the shelter told us that they'd had to rescue Zola three times from a water reservoir where she was trying to drink water. It's lucky that the workers were around to save her each time or she may not have survived.
Zola shows signs of being poor;y treated in her short life because she is submissive towards people and approaches as though trying to be sure not to cause anger. If you reach out to her she ducks back as though expecting physical contact of an unpleasant type. With time this is improving as she comes to trust those caring for her and know that they show only love.
At first, walking her was something of a challenge because she chose to simply lay down and not budge. perhaps she was worried about where she was being taken? Anyway, with gentle persuasion she now happily trots along.
Whilst she may show caution upon first meeting someone, she soon becomes very affectionate with them. All in all she is a very sweet and cuddly girl.
She is good with other dogs, though she can be a little dominant at times (possibly a throwback to being stuck in a cage with the pack an having to make sure she got her share of things). Once the tone is set within her little group she gets along very well with them and likes to play. She needs dogs of her own size though because she her play can be more rough than tumble.
Zola has tested positive for low-level (so low it is often considered negative) Leishmania. She is being treated with daily medication to ensure that it is kept well under control.
