Zola

Zola is a lovely Labrador mix who was found by community workers in a field near the shelter. The man who rescued her mentioned that they’d had to save Zola three times from a water reservoir where she was trying to drink. Fortunately, the workers were there each time, or she might not have survived.
She shows signs of having been mistreated in her short life. At first she was submissive around people and approached them cautiously, as if trying not to provoke anger. Reaching out to her resulted in her moving as though anticipating unpleasant contact. However, with time and patience, she now has more confidence and trust in people.
Initially, walking Zola was quite a challenge, as she would just lie down and refuse to move. Perhaps she was anxious about where she was being led. With gentle encouragement, she now happily trots alongside her walker. While Zola may be cautious when meeting new people, she quickly becomes affectionate and loving. Overall, she is a sweet and cuddly girl who gets along well with other dogs – although she can be a bit dominant at times. This behaviour may stem from her experience being caged with a pack and needing to assert herself to get her fair share. Once the dynamics are established in her group, she enjoys playing and interacting. However, she needs companions of similar size, as her play style can be more rough than tumble.
