Please have a read of what some of our current volunteers have to say

“ Volunteering at PAWS has and continues to be so a fantastic experience for the both of us. As a volunteer not only are you helping the dogs and puppies you also are meeting some wonderfully dedicated people. Whether you volunteer for an hour a week or even three hours every day, clean the pens, walk or socialise the dogs, organize fund raising, all of this is massively valuable assistance to the charity. We can tell you from experience that every minute that you are helping the dogs is utterly rewarding and correspondingly the minute you leave the shelter you can’t wait to be back there once again with the beautiful dogs. You receive so much love from these dogs, its just an amazing experience.

I have been a volunteer at the Shelter for nearly 17 years love being with the dogs and being able to help give them a better life than they had before. Please don't think you are too old. I am 73 and there are some older than me who clean out and walk dogs. My theory is as long as I can get out of bed and walk I will be at the Shelter with the dogs I love.

I started volunteering at PAWS Dog Shelter 10 years ago and have been the Kennel Manager for 9 of those years. The love and appreciation you get from the dogs is like nothing you can experience anywhere else. The look on those faces, those wagging tails is their way of showing you.

Twenty two years ago we arrived in Cyprus with our two dogs. At a casual meeting we were chatting to a couple of PAWS volunteers. My husband was very keen, I was extremely apprehensive. Armed with my book we went along on the Sunday morning. On arrival at the shelter, I took one look at the dogs who were all running around so happy and content, that was it, I was hooked. Over the years I have done a variety of jobs for the shelter, all very rewarding. Also as the years went on, at times I have drawn back from helping as much as I did. But the dogs draw you back it so rewarding and fulfilling to be part of the PAWS family. You are rewarded with happy doggy cuddles and wagging tails. To this day I am still at the shelter. Come along and give it a try. If in doubt join us at one of the coffee mornings, chat to the volunteers and meet the dogs. You won’t regret it.

I have been volunteering at Paws for 14 years and enjoy it very much. Working with the dogs is so rewarding and we have made so many like minded friends. The coffee mornings, quiz nights and other events are all great ways to socialise.

We've been volunteering 2 mornings a week for about a year now. We had no idea it would be so rewarding. We've built up relationships with all the dogs we attend to - they always recognise us and their love and gratitude is always unconditional (especially when they know there's treats in the offing!). When any finally get to be adopted and find their forever homes, be that in Cyprus, the UK or Germany, it's a great feeling. We clean, water and feed them and walk them too if there's time. Needless to say they get our love and attention too. For any dog lovers this is such a fullfilling vocation for 2-3 hours each shift. There's a bit of a social life too with the volunteers (monthly quiz, occasional meals and drinks out) and the management are great too with the dogs well being and welfare always uppermost.

Why do I enjoy coming to PAWS, well actually it is the dogs. I have been coming to PAWS for about 10 to 11 years and I have enjoyed helping out mainly cleaning and feeding the dogs. When I walk in in the morning the dogs go mad, but to me they are saying good morning and I give them a hug as I clean their pen and a biscuit when I am finished. 90% of dogs that come to PAWS have been abandoned and are frightened but in most cases the dogs get over it when they see we are not going to hurt them, but one or two of them never get over the way they have been treated. So if you have an hour or two and would like to help we desperately need cleaners on most days. I hope to see you here at PAWS where you will meet other cleaners (some have been at PAWS for years) and make new friends.
