Petras

Description

Name: PETRAS
DoB: March 2023
M/F: Male
Size: Medium
Admitted to PAWS: March 2024

Petras is a handsome Segugio Hound. Rescued from the streets, he is probably a failed hunting dog - a failure because he was afraid of the gunshots and the people surrounding him.  It is taking a while for him to learn to trust us; day by day he improves but it will take a while because we don't have the luxury of to spend the time with him that he needs.  He really needs people with more time to spend with him to build up a stress free bond and reassure him that life isn't so frightening after all.

His method of keeping humans at bay is to bark loud and long at them as they walk past his pen. If you go into the pen he retreats and watches with great suspicion to see what you will do. Even if you take food in, he prefers to wait until you are out of the way before tucking in. Be assured that he is all bark and no bite. he has never shown any aggression - just fear. He has never become aggressive towards us because of his fear.  This stress is the reason he does not put weight on.

He will go for a walk - somewhat reluctantly but at least he will go. This is a good sign for his future development.

We have had dogs like Petras before who, with time, patience and effort, blossom and become well-rounded hounds. These dogs really do deserve a chance in life, but sadly few people are willing to give them that chance. For Petras we are looking for someone who can make him feel secure and will work with him and not give in to his fears.

If you are that special person and think you love Petras, please email colleenatpaws@outlook.com for more information, or send PAWS a private Facebook message (please include your email address in the message), or come to the shelter to meet him.

All our dogs come fully vaccinated, health checked, and microchipped with rescue back up from PAWS. PLEASE NOTE: A homecheck will apply to all potential adopters.
Don’t live in Cyprus? Don’t worry. There are no restrictions on dogs flying from Cyprus to UK or other European countries. Travel costs will apply
