Meet Abbott, a resilient and lovable dog who, along with Costello, who we believe is his brother, was discovered by a lady who often encounters abandoned dogs in her neighbourhood. Both dogs were emaciated and dehydrated. Initially fearful of human interaction, they would run away upon her approach. However, her determination and kindness eventually broke through their defences. Gradually, they began to follow her from a distance, motivated by the food she provided. One day, after eating, they surprised her by lying down just a few metres away. The lady left food and water for them, but it was often removed, so she had to place the bowls away from public view to ensure their safety.
It is likely that Abbott & Costello were abandoned by hunters, who replaced them with younger, faster and healthier dogs. Since we had been able to help this lady in the past, she contacted us once again. Because the shelter was full we suggested that she called when she felt able to catch them and we could then tell her when we had space available. Finally, that day came and they are now safe in the shelter.
Of course, everything at PAWS was new to them and they initially found things stressful. The lady told us that it took about two weeks for them to trust her, and a few more weeks before they allowed her to pet them - likely their first taste of human kindness. They eventually began to join her on daily walks, allowing her to put a leash on them and walk slowly. Like many strays, they were full of ticks, but they allowed her to remove them and didn’t mind when she treated them and cleaned their ears.
Abbott and Costello are friendly, playful dogs who enjoy each other's companionship, as well as that of other dogs.Gradually they are thawing and beginning to enjoy human company.

All our dogs are fully vaccinated, health checked, and are spayed/neutered (if old enough) and microchipped. PAWS also offers ongoing support after adoption. A home check is part of our adoption process, designed to create the perfect match for both you and your new family member.
