Spongey 2

Spongey

Available for Adoption

Name: SPONGEY
M/F: Female
DoB: August 2020
Admitted to PAWS: August 2023
Spongey was found as a stray in a local village at the end of July 2023. A kind resident took her in and says that she was great with other dogs and with her cats. However, the lady didn't have a secure garden and so, knowing how scared she was, couldn't let her outside in case she ran away and couldn't take her on a lead because at that time she refused to move on a lead.
Spongey is a special little dog and not for the faint-hearted. She is very nervous of people to the point that it will take a lot of patience and perseverance to get her to trust you. After 8 months in the shelter she is just beginning to think that the volunteers might be OK people who mean her no harm. She will now approach people, albeit cautiously. We really hate to think about what might have happened to her to cause this behaviour.
She will walk on a lead now, but is wary of everything around her; however, she is very playful with the dog she shares a pen with. We've had dogs like this in the shelter before and know that with kindness, encouragement and lots of patience, the dog usually comes round and becomes a 'normal', affectionate little creature who loves people.
Spongey has tested positive for low-level Leishmania and is receiving appropriate medication and food. We are currently awaiting the results of a test sent to Nicosia to find out whether or not it was a true positive.
If you have the patience and understanding to give this girl the time she needs to learn to trust and would like to adopt her or would like more information about adoption in general or Leishmania, please send us a private message (please include your email address in the message), email colleenatpaws@outlook.com or come to the shelter to meet Spongey.
All PAWS dogs come fully vaccinated, health checked, and microchipped with rescue back up from PAWS. PLEASE NOTE: A n adoption donation and a homecheck will apply.
