Evi was found on a busy main road, too weak to even think of running away. She has Leishmania, which along with poor care was responsible for her appearance. Medication and the correct food are working well for her and she is a now a lovely looking girl. We think that she may be Ariegeois breed - bred specifically as a hunting dog and so possibly no good with cats or other small pets; other dogs though should be fine.
She settled into the shelter quite easily, probably because, for once, she felt safe and cared for. She was soon offered a place in a foster home where there are other dogs and she gets on just fine with them. However, men are something of a problem for her. Some are OK, others not so. This is likely to be a throwback to her earlier treatment at the hands of a previous owner. It is clear that she needs people who will understand her fears, gain her confidence and work with her to overcome them. We are sure that with time this will be possible.
For Evi, we are looking for someone with lots of patience and an understanding of fearful dogs. If there are men in the household, then they need to be sympathetic to her fears and be ready to treat her with care and encouragement. Nothing can be ‘expected’ of Evi, everything must be taught and earned.
